TwentyFour: Make 24 from Four Numbers

About TwentyFour

The 24 game is a classic mental-math puzzle. You are given four numbers and must combine all four, using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, to make exactly 24. Every number is used once. Pick two numbers, choose an operation, and they merge into a single result until one number is left.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which numbers and modes do the puzzles use?

In Whole numbers and Fractions allowed the numbers come from 1 to 13, like the cards in a deck from ace to king. Difficult uses numbers from 1 to 30. You choose a mode: Whole numbers, Fractions allowed, or Difficult. Every puzzle can be solved.

Are fractions allowed?

In Fractions allowed and Difficult, yes. A step can give a fraction, which is what makes the hardest puzzles hard. For example 8, 8, 3 and 3 make 24 as 8 / (3 - 8 / 3). In Whole numbers every step must give a whole number, so 12 / 2 = 6 is fine but 8 / 3 is not, and the puzzles are ones that can be solved that way. Difficult uses just the puzzles that cannot be solved without a fractional step.

What do Hint, Skip and Solution do?

Hint highlights the first step of a solution and still counts as a solve. Skip gives you a new puzzle with no effect on your streak. Solution shows how to make 24 and ends the puzzle, which resets your streak.

Is the 24 game free?

Yes. No login is needed to play. A free login saves your settings and tracks your solved puzzles and streak. See the full how-to-play guide, or try Albert Holt's other number games, Sudoku and Nonograms, and his word games, Schmabble, Schmurdle and Word Hunt.
